According to legend, long time ago, there was a spring where noblemen from Brumov´s Castle sit down and rest after hunting in nearby forests. They marked this place with hat on the nearest tree, so they could come back next time. The settlement which was founded here was named after this hat…

The sightseeing of the town of Valašské Klobouky can start in the middle of the town square, where The Old Town Hall building is located. Not far from that place, there is a fountain from the 19" century.

The Old Town Hall has a renaissance core, the Hall´s tower was decorated by a dock from the 16th century. The present appearance has resulted not only from the late Baroque reconstruction (1797-1798), but also from later reconstruction in 1943. The Old Tow Hall building is today the building of the Town Museum, which offers the opportunity to get some more information aboul the history of the town and the district. Many significant exhibitions and concerts take place in the Old Town Hall. Before talking about something else, an old Renaissance Pillory in the nearby park should be mentioned. It is one of the oldest well-preserved pillories in the Czech Republic.

Another museum building is also very attractive for the visitors. It is the House No. 194 called "the Red House". The most famous local trades are being presented in its interiors from the 19th century, namely the drapery, linen-drapery and dyeing. The visitors can admire both the contemporary equipment of the rooms and a scullery, and they can also witness the process of looming. The linen-drapery is an entire part of that house, because it was built in 1781 by Dobias Tomastik a master draper (it was built by himself, or together with his brother Benedikt).

On the way from the Old Town Hall to the Red House, there is the Baroque Virgin Mary column from 1762 and the House No. 132 today's Town Authority Building. The author of this building as well as of other unique buildings in the town, is architect Hubert Gessner (1871-1943), the local native. His masterpiece is the House No. 116 near the church, called the Bratmann's Villa.

Another part of the historical town precinct is the Church of The Raising of the Holy Rood. The church has a gothic core from the 1340´s, but it´s monumental tower from the second half of the 16 th century provides evidence of some renaissance construction works. The present appearance of the church is the result of a baroque reconstruction. Near the church, there is a parsonage with No. 113.

Going along the Soukenicka Street, which is parallel to the town square, one can easily get to the Grammar School. Near the school, there is a wooden building No. 62 locally called "Dřevěnice". which is a unique representative of folk South-Walachian architecture. Other valuable representatives of such architecture can be found towards the town of Brumov, namely the wooden building, built at the turn of the 18 th and 19 th centuries. One of them the House No. 11 is today's seat of ZO CSOP KOSENKA - the organization dealing with environmental protection. Another one is numbered with 11 and it shows, what the original town estate looked like. Along the street down of Brumov, there is the House No. 7, again, a typical folk timbered house from the beginning of the 19 th century.

After going back to the town square, one can notice the House No. 105 in the northwestern part of the square. It was built in the 1720´s and it´s nice gable faces the square. Untill today, it proves the evidence of middle class and merchant-like buildings there.

The upper left part of the town square is decorated by a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. In the lower square part, there is the House No. 177 inspired by the unique work of Hubert Gessner. The building includes flats, as well as a looming workroom and it belongs to the buildinqs realized the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The impression is powered by the picturesque landscape of the White Carpathians. The numerous tourist paths offer o unique opportunity to become acquainted with several interesting places, as well as with nature beauty of the South Wallachia.
