Horovice Tourism

Horovice is an entry gate into the unspoiled countryside of Brdy Mountains. Near the town there's also a CHKO Krivoklatsko (National Park), and the Czech Karst - extensive caves.

This area is unfortunately ignored by tourists these days but it was one of the cradles of Czech tourism. Many famous people used to visit the forests - especially in the Romantic Period. Jan Neruda (a Czech author) called Horovice "the Bohemian Betlehem".

The main tourist atraction is a Baroque-Classical Palace. Interesting is also the Gothic Church of Saint Giles, the Baroque Church of the Trinity with a Loreta chapel and a 17th century well (fountain). The town also has a pseudorenaissance Town Hall from the beginning of the twentieth century.

Not far from Horovice are other cultural sights and historic monuments of the region - castles Karlstejn, Krivoklat, Dobris Palace, Breznice and the Saint Mountain - a place of a christian pilgrimage. Within easy reach there are the castles Zebrak and Tocnik.

There are many places in Horovice where you can relax or take part in sport - e.g. the wood "Drazovka", the town's swimming pool, gymnasiums (covered stadium), a horse riding center and a number of cultural facilities.

Since the autumn of 1997 there has been a cultural center in Horovice which has been developed by joining the cinema, library and the Public Meeting House (Arts centre). The center is organising cultural events, educational courses and art exhibitions. There is also a night club in Horovice opened in 1998 called "Labe" ("The Elb"). You can find more information about the region in the INFO center which has been in Horovice since October 1999.

Accomodation - in the center of the town there's a hotel "Zeleny strom" ("Green Tree") with 74 beds, a stylish pension called "The Ranch" (19 beds) and some private Band B (bed and breakfast) accomodation. There are many restaurants in Horovice with different price levels.

Horovice is only a few minutes from the Prague-Pilsen motorway. You can reach both cities within 30 minutes. Since 1862 Horovice has its own railway. On the north-west border of the town there is a small airport which is used by skydiving clubs and local flying schools. Buisness flights will be available soon.
